About Shilpa
As a bilingual (English/Gujarati) therapist, my work with adults from diverse backgrounds and age groups informs my culturally sensitive approach to treatment. I utilize an eclectic approach drawing from psychodynamic, person-centered, and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). Therapy is an opportunity to explore our struggles in the context of our past experiences and patterns while in a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space while developing effective ways of navigating them.

About Me
For people that are hesitant to try therapy, what do you wish you could tell them?
Therapy is whatever you need it to be. It can be a great place to explore and challenge unhelpful patterns of behavior, process and heal from difficult experiences and trauma in our past, learn effective coping techniques, process thoughts, feelings, and emotions, and develop and work towards life goals -- all in a supportive, non-judgmental emotionally supportive safe space. It takes great strength and courage to be vulnerable and share, and I am humbled to be given the opportunity to be part of your experience as you work towards change.
About Me
What should people thinking about working with you, know about you?
I am a multilingual licensed mental health counselor fluent in Gujarati and second-generation South Asian American. My experience working with adults from diverse backgrounds and age groups in community-based and outpatient settings informs my culturally sensitive approach to treatment. In our sessions together, we will work towards identifying your goals and meeting your needs while working on healing, developing self-awareness, and practicing self-compassion. I will provide a safe space for you to feel emotionally supported while also helping you challenge unhelpful patterns in order work towards change. I look forward to meeting you!
About Me
What does a typical session with you tend to look like?
Therapy is a collaborative process providing an opportunity to bring awareness to how past experiences are affecting current struggles.
About Me
How can you provide care remotely?
Remote access to mental health care via telehealth during the coronavirus pandemic has increased accessibility to those who otherwise may have struggled to get the help that they need and/or may have had mobility limitations. During our remote sessions, we will utilize a HIPAA-compliant video platform and meet as we would in-person, setting treatment goals and establishing a therapeutic relationship. A 2018 study published in the Journal of Psychological Disorders found that online cognitive behavioral therapy was as effective as face-to-face treatment for major depression, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder.
