About Me
Why did you become a therapist, and what motivates you to continue?
I always knew I wanted to help people in some form or capacity but it took me awhile to figure out what that looked like for me. My inspiration came from a high school psychology class led by a psychology graduate student. After taking that class, I became very intrigued about how the human mind works and how mental health plays a role in that. When I went off to college I studied psychology with a goal in mind to become a mental health therapist and I never took my eyes off the prize.
Approaches · Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
How does cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) work and how can it help?
CBT is a evidence-based approach that is known to be quite effective. This approach is based in challenging thoughts and behaviors. Ours thoughts is what drives us and our behaviors are the response. Challenging and changing the way in which you think, can ultimately change your behaviors and your life.
About Me
For people that are hesitant to try therapy, what do you wish you could tell them?
I understand what it's like to be hesitant to try something new. However, I believe that you can't accurately assess if something works for you until you try it. I tend to think of therapy like the birthday outfit you are looking for, you may find many good options, but you really want the best fit.
About Me
What should people thinking about working with you, know about you?
My sessions are often client led, but I am not a silent therapist. I believe in helping my clients break their problems and issues down to find adequate solutions or simple acceptance. I encourage my clients to do self-reflection and self exploration in and out of the session.
