I grew up surrounded by nature and beauty in Northern California. I completed my undergraduate degree in Sociology at Biola University in La Mirada, CA with a minor in Biblical Studies. In 2012, I began my graduate studies at New York University, earning a Master’s in Social Work specializing in geriatric and end of life care. I have been a Licensed Clinician for four years and feel honored to have a practice where I can use EMDR techniques to help others heal.

What's your experience with relationship counseling?
I am not currently accepting couples at this time.
What's your experience with children or adolescents?
I work with adolescents ages 16 + on a maturity basis only. I love working with teens and find their openness and vulnerability to be refreshing. I find a combination of EMDR, CBT and play therapy to be most successful along with a good amount of time building rapport when working with adolescents. I am not accepting any clients younger than 16 at this time.
What's your experience with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)?
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is extremely effective and pairs well when working with EMDR. I have been trained in Trauma Informed CBT and find it extremely beneficial when working with clients who experience anxiety and depression. I often will guide client's through a "thought record" which allows client's to recognize negative or unhelpful thoughts and emotions, how to challenge those thoughts and then teach client's to replace them with things that are true and likely positive.
Why did you become a therapist, and what motivates you to continue?
After working in medical social work for 8 years, often times with patients who were not willing or able to accept my help, I wanted to transition to a job where people desired to heal. I strongly believe that I have the ability to connect with all types of people in a unique way. I have been gifted with the ability to empathize with others along with a strength that allows me to carry the burdens of others. Seeing my client's lives change because of the hard work that they do motivates me. It is such an immense privilege to join along side clients who want to change and grow.
For people that are hesitant to try therapy, what do you wish you could tell them?
Therapy can mean so much to different people. There may be shame attached to "needing" therapy, or perhaps those in your life may think it's "silly" or "unnecessary". I would encourage you to view therapy as simply a space where you can experience support and hopefully healing. Where you can learn how to form a healthy and secure relationship at your pace. Therapy can be challenging but if you think about a struggle that you have currently, if you can imagine that being gone, would it be worth the challenging road? I believe the answer is likely yes.
What's your experience with eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR)?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy treatment that mimics REM, or the rapid eye movement we experience during sleep. Originated by Francine Shapiro, PhD, EMDR is thought to help people heal from the symptoms and emotional distress caused by disturbing life experiences.
I believe that EMDR can be an efficient and effective technique. Treatment occurs in eight phases to help clients work through past memories and current stressors. It also prepares clients for future encounters that may feel daunting.
I highly recommend that my clients do their own research on what EMDR is and how it is beneficial. They can find more information on this technique at EMDR.com.
What should people thinking about working with you, know about you?
My background in social work has given me invaluable tools for my work as a private practice therapist. I have worked one-on-one with individuals on Skid Row in Los Angeles; supported hospice patients in Brooklyn, New York; and provided trauma training to local townships in South Africa. My young adult life has been devoted to learning about people, working in mental health, and gaining experience to help people heal. I firmly believe that my training in EMDR also allows for me to be able to help all types of people in way that is effective and allows for you to experience positive results quickly which other therapists may not be able to provide.
What does a typical session with you tend to look like?
I provide 45-minute and 90-minute sessions. Our first session would involve getting to know each other, history taking and ensuring that you have the tools to help you when things feel hard or overwhelming. I primarily do EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) which involves reprocessing of old and potentially traumatic memories that have likely been "incorrectly" stored with negative beliefs about yourself. This process is unique and most are not familiar with it so I will ensure that you have adequate information on how this works prior to beginning our work together.
How can you provide care remotely?
Virtual sessions provide an ease and flexibility that did not used to exist. Through a HIPPA compliant and confidential site, we will join a video call that is easy to use. I enjoy virtual sessions because my client does not have to worry about traffic or parking and client's are often times much more able to meet during the day rather than only during evenings and weekends.
