About Velile

Hello and welcome to my profile! My name is Velile S. Nkolomi, and I'm a board-certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with a passion for helping individuals achieve their best mental health. With certifications across Texas, Washington, Oklahoma, and New Mexico, I've dedicated my career to providing empathetic and effective care. Since joining Broadway Psychiatry in June 2020, I've specialized in the diagnosis, evaluation, and management of psychiatric conditions for patients aged 6 and older. My approach is always personalized, ensuring that each individual receives the attention and treatment that aligns with their unique needs. Prior to my current role, I was part of the compassionate team at TeamHealth at Seay Behavioral Center where I conducted screenings and evaluations for inpatient admissions. There, I also managed medication for patients aged 12 and up, ensuring their journey to wellness was on the right track. My experience extends to Garland Behavioral Hospital as well, where I've been supporting inpatient care since November 2017. Here, I focus on medication management in a collaborative environment, always prioritizing patient support and recovery. I understand that seeking help for mental health can be daunting. That's why I'm here—to guide you through every step with care and expertise. If you're looking for a dedicated professional to support your mental wellness journey, please feel free to reach out to me. Let's work together towards a brighter, healthier future.

How do you work with clients with anxiety?

I employ a holistic approach aimed at reducing symptoms and enhancing coping mechanisms. I utilize techniques from cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), such as cognitive restructuring and exposure therapy, to challenge negative thought patterns and gradually confront fears. Relaxation techniques, mindfulness, and stress management strategies are also integrated into therapy sessions. Depending on the severity of symptoms, medication management may be considered in conjunction with therapy to provide additional support.

Why did you become a therapist, and what motivates you to continue?

I became a psychiatric nurse practitioner because of my passion for helping individuals achieve optimal mental health and well-being. Witnessing the transformative impact of mental health care on individuals' lives inspired me to pursue a career in this field. What motivates me to continue is the opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of my clients, empowering them to overcome challenges and thrive. I find fulfillment in fostering resilience, promoting self-discovery, and supporting individuals on their journey towards greater emotional and psychological wellness.

How do you work with clients with depression?

I prioritize creating a safe and supportive therapeutic environment. Through active listening and empathy, I aim to understand the underlying factors contributing to their depression. I utilize a combination of therapy modalities, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), interpersonal therapy (IPT), and supportive therapy, tailored to the individual's needs. Medication management may be considered in severe cases or when therapy alone is not sufficient. Additionally, I emphasize self-care practices and lifestyle modifications to support overall well-being.

For people that are hesitant to try therapy, what do you wish you could tell them?

To those hesitant about therapy, I would emphasize that seeking help is a courageous step towards healing and growth. Therapy offers a safe and supportive space to explore thoughts, feelings, and experiences, free from judgment or criticism. It's an opportunity to gain insight, develop coping skills, and find relief from emotional distress. Remember, you don't have to face your challenges alone—therapy provides guidance, support, and hope for a brighter future.

What should people thinking about working with you, know about you?

Individuals considering working with me can expect a compassionate and nonjudgmental approach to mental health care. I prioritize building a trusting and collaborative therapeutic relationship, where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered in their treatment journey. My practice is guided by a commitment to holistic wellness, addressing emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual aspects of health. I value diversity and cultural sensitivity, striving to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all clients.

Follow-up Visit - 15 minutes A follow-up visit involves checking the progress of the patient's treatment plan, assessing any new symptoms or concerns, and adjusting the treatment plan as needed to ensure optimal health outcomes. Medication Refill (Telehealth) A medication refill appointment typically involves a brief review of his/her existing patient's medical history, confirming the need for the medication refill, and issuing a new prescription. It may also involve evaluating any side effects or concerns related to the medication and ensuring that the treatment plan is still appropriate for the patient's needs. How do you work with clients with ADHD?

I take a comprehensive approach, beginning with a thorough assessment to understand their unique symptoms and challenges. I employ evidence-based interventions, such as behavioral therapy and medication management when appropriate, to help manage symptoms and improve functioning. Psychoeducation plays a significant role, helping clients and their families understand ADHD and develop coping strategies. I also emphasize the importance of structure, routine, and organization in daily life to enhance productivity and self-management skills.

How can you provide care remotely?

I offer telepsychiatry services to provide convenient and accessible care for clients. Through secure video conferencing platforms, I conduct virtual appointments for initial assessments, follow-up sessions, and medication management. Telepsychiatry allows for continuity of care, ensuring that clients can receive support from the comfort of their own homes. I prioritize maintaining confidentiality and adhering to privacy regulations to ensure a secure and confidential therapeutic environment.
