How do you work with clients with domestic abuse issues?
When working with clients who have experienced domestic abuse, I focus first on creating a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where they feel heard, respected, and empowered. I understand that abuse can affect emotional well-being, self-worth, trust, decision-making, and a person’s sense of safety in lasting ways. My approach is compassionate and trauma-informed, which means I move at the client’s pace, honor their experiences, and avoid placing pressure or blame. I help clients process what they have been through, strengthen emotional stability, and begin reconnecting with their own voice, needs, and sense of self.
Depending on the client’s situation and goals, our work may include building coping skills for anxiety, trauma, depression, or fear, exploring patterns in relationships, restoring confidence, and supporting healthy boundaries. I also take a whole-person approach, recognizing that healing may involve emotional support, practical planning, medication management when appropriate, and lifestyle strategies that help clients feel more grounded and in control. My goal is to help clients move from survival mode toward healing, clarity, and a stronger sense of personal safety and empowerment.
