How does acceptance and commitment (ACT) work and how can it help?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, or ACT, helps you build a more meaningful life while learning how to make room for difficult thoughts, emotions, memories, and physical sensations. Instead of focusing only on getting rid of discomfort, ACT helps you relate to painful experiences differently so they have less control over your choices.
In our work together, we identify what matters most to you, notice patterns that keep you stuck, and practice skills to respond with more flexibility and intention. ACT can be especially helpful for trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, stress, and life transitions because it supports you in taking values-based steps forward, even when difficult emotions are still present.
I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Army veteran, and founder of Mindful Point Behavioral Health Counseling — a telehealth trauma practice serving adults across New Mexico. My work centers on evidence-based trauma treatment for veterans, active duty service members, first responders, and adults navigating the lasting effects of difficult experiences. I specialize in EMDR, Written Exposure Therapy (WET), and Image Rehearsal Therapy (IRT) — structured, research-backed approaches that go beyond managing symptoms to actually process what happened. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) runs throughout my work as a values-based framework for building a meaningful life even while difficult emotions are present.
