We all have the potential to create meaningful lives amidst joy and pain. I aim to help you embrace life's possibilities and discover new paths toward wholeness. I offer a safe, compassionate space to help you gain new insights and reconnect with forgotten or blocked parts of yourself. With 18 years of experience in mindfulness, existential, transpersonal, and somatic approaches, I've provided counseling in diverse settings, including wilderness therapy, drug and alcohol programs, homeless veterans programs, and community mental health. Since 2015, I've specialized in trauma-focused therapy in my private practice.

How do you work with clients with anxiety?

When working with individuals experiencing anxiety, I focus on exploring the root causes while creating a space for you to fully experience and process your emotions in the present moment. I incorporate mindfulness techniques and integrate evidence-based practices like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to offer effective coping strategies that support you in managing anxiety.

For people that are hesitant to try therapy, what do you wish you could tell them?

For those hesitant to try therapy, I’d encourage you to see it as your time—you set the pace, and we’ll regularly check in to ensure your needs are being met. I’ll also provide a guide to help you get the most out of therapy, so you can approach it in a way that feels both helpful and productive for you.

How do you work with clients with trauma and PTSD?

When working with individuals who have experienced trauma, I prioritize creating a safe, compassionate space where healing can unfold at your pace. I use a trauma-informed approach that focuses on helping you process past experiences without becoming overwhelmed, incorporating body-centered and mindfulness-based practices. We’ll also work together to build skills that empower you to navigate the present with more resilience and calm. Please visit joshflowerscounseling.com/trauma-recovery for more specifics on how I use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) specifically in working with PTSD.

What do therapy sessions with you look like?

Therapy sessions with me are highly individual-focused, meaning that while I provide a safe and engaged space with thoughtful prompts and questions, I don’t impose a lot of structure. Instead, I trust the process and allow you to explore what feels most relevant to your current experience, letting the session unfold naturally.

How do you work with clients with addiction?

In working with individuals facing addiction, I take a compassionate, non-judgmental approach, recognizing that addiction often serves as a coping mechanism for deeper pain. Together, we explore the root causes of your addiction while building healthier coping strategies. I integrate mindfulness techniques and help you create sustainable change, whether that means complete abstinence or developing a more balanced relationship with the substances or behaviors in question. Please visit joshflowerscounseling.com/addiction-recovery for more specifics on how I work with addiction.

How do you work with clients with stress?

When working with individuals dealing with stress, I help you explore the underlying causes while providing space to acknowledge and process your current experience. I use mindfulness techniques and practical coping strategies, and we’ll also focus on small changes in your daily habits and behaviors to help reduce stress and create a healthier balance in your life.
