How does somatic therapy work, and what do sessions look like?
Somatic therapy focuses on the mind-body connection and invites you to become aware of any physical sensations affecting your mind. A session involving somatic therapy might include the therapist asking you to identify the bodily location of emotions, learning grounding techniques, or movement. Somatic Therapy is an evidence-based treatment for trauma and PTSD and places an emphasis on regulating your nervous system through body- centered or "bottom-up" approaches.
Hi! I am Madeline, an associate mental health counselor in Washington State. I primarily work with adults with trauma or PTSD, particularly young adults and LGBTQ+ individuals. I also support individual clients who practice ENM, are navigating life transitions, relationship challenges, burnout, low self-esteem, anxiety, grief, or depression. No matter what brings you to therapy, I will empower you to make sense of your world and experiences while supporting you in creating a path toward meaningful healing and connection. I see clients in my office in Pioneer Square in Seattle on Thursdays and Fridays and also offer flexible online availability for anyone in Washington. Please note that for in-person appointments, stairs are required to access the office. Outside of work, I enjoy spending my time in nature, especially paddleboarding with my dog. I also enjoy more grounded hobbies like reading, puzzles, coloring, writing, and caring for houseplants.

I’m so glad you’ve found your way here! You can call me Mckenna or Kenna (they/them). I identify as Queer, neurodivergent, a “spoonie”, and was raised on the unceded land of the Duwamish people, now known as Seattle. As an ally to those with marginalized identities, I’m grounded in the belief that our collective liberation is interconnected. I recognize how structural harms shape our experiences and healing journeys, and I’m committed to creating an inclusive, gender-affirming, sex-positive space rooted in Health at Every Size, and beyond. My work blends Liberation Psychology and Feminist Theory, striving to be authentic, anti-racist, and anti-oppressive. I hold a MA from Antioch University Seattle, trained in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Art Therapy and am currently accepting new clients at Playful Minds Counseling. I have experience providing LGBTQIA2S+ and neurodivergent-affirming care to teens and young adults navigating their sexual orientation and gender exploration, life transitions, family dynamics (particularly for children of immigrants and third culture individuals), disability & chronic illness, trauma/PTSD/C-PTSD, and suicidal ideation. I believe in the healing power of the creative arts and will introduce you to art therapy. Whether or not we incorporate art in our work together, creativity can show up in many ways, and I look forward to exploring that with you.
