Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist - Associate
Online Therapy
I am a dynamic and passionate leader, educator, and clinician with a goal to help you become the best version of yourself. I have two decades of experience in working in behavioral health and addiction treatment—serving clients spanning from ages 4 to 90. I spent the last 10 years as an operational executive with addiction treatment providers in the United States.  I find fulfillment in helping others learn to overcome their substance and behavioral addictions. I work with patients to solve the complex problems that lead to addiction—validating their journey along the way and providing unconditional positive regard through their troubles and successes. I believe that addiction is not the problem, therefore, I approach addiction as a maladaptive solution to a problem. I look forward to guiding you through the discovery of healthy solutions to those problems.  My approach is a holistic focus on healing the full psyche (mind, body, and spirit) through an evolutionary and anthropological view of psychology. I utilize techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Existential Therapy coupled with motivational interviewing and trauma informed care to explore the unique experiences that makes each of us human.  As a former Licensed Guidance Counselor and Student Assistance Program (SAP) Counselor, I have a strong level of expertise in working with teens and young adults who have addiction. I also specialize in working with individuals with behavioral addictions and affliction (gambling, sex, pornography, work, etc.) My areas of expertise include substance use, behavioral addictions, and the relationship between trauma and addiction.  Credentials: I received a master’s degree in Community and College Counseling from Longwood University, and a dual Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Human Services from Lyndon State College. I am a Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist Associate in the state of North Carolina.  It is important to note that as an LCAS-A, although I am able to practice and bill independently, at times I may have to consult with my supervisor for clinical purposes. No identifying information will be relayed or discussed in consultation or supervision. My supervisor is Boyce Smith, MA, LCAS, LCMHCA, NCC, CCS, MAC.  I currently live in Charlotte, NC where I enjoy spending time with my family and dogs, doing yoga, running, cycling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and boxing.

Hi. I'm Shannon. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. My areas of interest include personality and identity development, LGBTQIA concerns (including gender dysphoria, gender exploration & gender transition), depression and other mood disorders, anxiety, grief and loss, men's mental health, post-trauma intervention, and treatment for problem sexual behavior. Before beginning my career in counseling, I worked in the field of victim services for 15 years, serving as a professional victim advocate in five different states and speaking on a local and national level about the effects of sexual violence. I remain passionate about the issues related to sexual trauma and victimization. I have provided individual and group treatment for those convicted of sexual offenses since 2015, and I have facilitated a process group for victims of sexual violence since 2019. I am honored to work alongside clients on their journeys towards self-discovery, healing and wellness. I am both compassionate and direct. I practice with an anti-discrimination, anti-oppression, and anti-racist orientation, and I care about how your personal experiences have influenced your view of yourself, of others, and of the world. I use an integrative and client-centered approach to counseling to assist clients in their personal growth and development. I provide off-site group therapy by contract and in partnership with local organizations. I am available for training and consultation to professionals, students, and service organizations on topics including trauma, interpersonal violence, mental health disorders, gender and sexuality, sex offender management and treatment, and self-care for caregivers. I have provided expert witness testimony on victim behavior, sexual assault reporting procedures, and the effects of trauma, and I am available for consultation to prosecutors. As an LPC Supervisor, I am approved by the LA LPC Board to supervise Provisionally Licensed Professional Counselors (PLPC's). PLPC's must document a minimum of 3,000 hours of post-master's experience in professional mental health counseling under the clinical supervision of a board-approved supervisor before they may be fully licensed, If you are interested in LPC Supervision, please click on the Clinical Supervision link under the Services tab.

Licensed Clinical Social Worker
Online & In-Person
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I received my BSW in 2014 from Kutztown University and then my MSW in 2019 from Widener University. I am also a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. I have experience working with clients who have depression, mood disorders, anxiety, PTSD, trauma and grief/loss, auditory and visual hallucinations, self harm and suicidal ideation. I have worked with various mental health conditions and populations and enjoy working with children, teens and adults. I hope to foster an environment where you can feel safe and open to express your thoughts, feelings and experiences, and work on learning new and healthier ways to express and cope with your emotions and stressors. I believe in starting where you (the client) are and that it is important that we work together as a team while working on the goals that you feel are the most important for you to work on. The modalities I use most often are CBT, DBT and mindfulness approaches and I advocate for self care and learning new and healthier coping skills. I often promote self care practices, as I believe self care is vital for us all. It is often very easy to overlook self care. When we do not take care of ourselves, this can lead to feelings of burn out, anxiety and depression. I also like to teach clients about mindfulness, meditation, breath work, relaxation and coping strategies.I believe whole heartedly that compassion and empathy are vital not only in therapy but essential to being human. I believe that everyone deserves compassion, kindness and forgiveness and I believe it is not only important to give these to others but also to ourselves. I invite you to spend some time today engaging in much needed self care.
