About Nikki

Hello! My name is Nikki Schuster, and I am a Licensed Social Worker providing Telehealth therapy services to private pay clients located in Colorado. I have a Master's of Social Work degree from MSU Denver, and I am passionate about meeting my clients where they are at, highlighting their strengths, and collaborating to achieve any goals they may have. I utilized a combination of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, based on each individual client's goals and needs. I specialize in family conflict, anxiety, and grief, and can also assist with depression, addiction, trauma, and chronic illness. I provide both individual ($110 per session) and couples ($125) therapy, and having a sliding scale available for those who need it. I am a member of the LGBTQIA+ community and a woman with a disability, and I pride myself on being a safe space for other marginalized individuals. Outside of work, I love to travel and create art.

How does couples therapy work and how can it help?

In a couples therapy session, both you and your partner will show up equally. I will ask both of you similar questions about any given situation to gain an understanding of each of your unique perspectives. I will hold space for each of you to share your thoughts and feelings. I will encourage you to tackle each problem together, rather than fighting against one another. Couples therapy can help you uncover maladaptive behavioral patterns in your relationship, process and move on from painful memories, and develop healthy communication skills to deepen your bond and strengthen your relationship.

Why did you become a therapist, and what motivates you to continue?

I became a therapist because I have always been passionate about supporting other people through the difficult times in their lives. I knew that I wanted to be able to make a career out of serving others, and my strengths lie in being able to talk and connect with people, so therapy was the best way to be able to do both. My clients' progress and small victories are what motivate me to continue this work.

For people that are hesitant to try therapy, what do you wish you could tell them?

For people that are hesitant to try therapy, I wish I could tell them that the only way to see change in any given situation is to try something you have never done before. There are all kinds of different therapists and modalities out there and your sessions can look however you want them to. Therapists are not just, "listening to you complain because they are paid to," but rather, we care deeply about you as an individual and want to see you succeed in living the best life you can. Therapy can be very intimidating and it isn't always fun, but it can make a big difference if you open yourself up to the possibility. Therapy is not a "one size fits all" cure, but if you are willing to put in the work, it can be an extra tool in your toolbox. Even if therapy doesn't show you the progress you want, at least you would be able to look back a year from now and know that you tried.
