How do you work with clients with self esteem issues?
I help clients with self-esteem issues by identifying negative self-beliefs, building on their strengths, and teaching tools like CBT, mindfulness, and affirmations to develop confidence, self-compassion, and a more balanced self-image.
My path to becoming a therapist is deeply personal. Over the years, I have experienced grief, loss, divorce, trauma, abuse, and major life transitions in my own journey. These experiences not only shaped my understanding of suffering but also deepened my heart for walking with others who find themselves in painful or uncertain seasons. I know firsthand how overwhelming life can feel, and I also see the hope and restoration that can come through faith, healing, and connection. In addition to my personal journey, I have spent many years as a social worker in the hospice field, supporting individuals and families through end-of-life care, loss, and the grieving process. These experiences deepened my calling to create a safe and compassionate space for people in their most vulnerable moments. They also strengthened my belief that healing is possible even in seasons of sorrow, especially when we lean on faith and community. Today, as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I specialize in supporting individuals through grief, loss, trauma, relationship struggles, and life transitions. My approach is warm, collaborative, and faith-centered—grounded in the belief that every person is created in God’s image and deeply loved by Him. At Connect & Restore Therapy, I blend evidence-based practices with Christian values, offering a safe space where you can process your story, rediscover your strength, and move forward with clarity and peace. It is my privilege to walk alongside you, not only as a therapist but also as someone who has walked through valleys and experienced God’s grace and renewal firsthand. Together, we can lean into hope and pursue the healing and restoration God desires for your life. As Scripture reminds us, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18).

My most important commitment is that you feel truly affirmed, empowered, and heard. I listen with deep curiosity and humility, always honoring your unique story and how your lived experiences have shaped your values, hopes, and emotional needs. Whether you’re grappling with anxiety, self-doubt, grief, people-pleasing, or power struggles in your relationships, I create a nonjudgmental space to explore complex feelings like guilt, insecurity, jealousy, regret, resentment, and more. I also offer a deep understanding of cultural pressures, marginalization, and power dynamics. For over 15 years, I've worked alongside diverse communities in public health and education––from LGBTQIA+ centers, sexual health programs, and reproductive justice organizations, to disability centers, trauma-informed crisis lines, and under-resourced schools. Across nearly two decades, I have supported numerous people of color and immigrants––many of them queer and/or trans––as they negotiated multiple perspectives on belonging, cultural authenticity, discrimination, failure/success, faith, family, sexuality, and social class. Witnessing the tenacity, self-awareness, compassion, and character of cycle-breakers was one of a few major motivators for entering the profession. I earned an M.Phil.Ed. in Professional Counseling from the University of Pennsylvania's Graduate School of Education and an Ed.M. in Human Development & Psychology at Harvard's Graduate School of Education.

How do you work with clients with self esteem issues?
Struggling with self-esteem can feel like you’re constantly battling an inner voice that tells you you're not good enough, or that you're unworthy of love and respect. Whether these feelings stem from past experiences, societal pressure, or your own inner critics, it can be incredibly draining. If you're dealing with low self-esteem, you're not alone, and the good news is that with the right support, it is possible to rebuild your self-worth and cultivate a healthier, more compassionate relationship with yourself. Here’s how I work with clients who are navigating self-esteem issues: Creating a Safe, Non-Judgmental Space: Low self-esteem often comes with feelings of shame, guilt, or fear of being judged. In our work together, I create a safe, non-judgmental space where you can explore the roots of your self-esteem challenges without fear of criticism. This is a place where you can be honest and vulnerable while feeling completely supported. Identifying Negative Thought Patterns: Many people with low self-esteem struggle with negative self-talk and distorted beliefs, like “I’m not good enough” or “I’ll never be successful.” In our sessions, we’ll work together to identify these harmful thought patterns and begin to challenge and reframe them. By changing how you think about yourself, we can begin to shift how you feel. Building Self-Awareness: Often, low self-esteem is tied to past experiences, childhood wounds, or societal expectations that have shaped how you view yourself. We’ll explore the root causes of your self-esteem struggles, gently unpacking the experiences that contributed to these beliefs. Through this self-awareness, we can start to separate who you truly are from the negative narratives you’ve been carrying. Fostering Self-Compassion: One of the most important aspects of healing from low self-esteem is learning to treat yourself with kindness and understanding. We’ll work on developing self-compassion—learning how to talk to yourself in the same gentle, supportive way you would talk to a close friend. I’ll help you challenge the harsh inner critic and replace it with a more loving, nurturing inner voice. Reframing Self-Worth: Self-esteem is not about being perfect; it’s about recognizing your inherent worth as a human being. I’ll guide you in exploring what makes you unique, valuable, and worthy of love and respect. Together, we’ll create a more realistic and positive understanding of your strengths and qualities, helping you appreciate who you are, even on difficult days. Building Confidence Through Action: Confidence often comes from taking small steps and experiencing success in areas of life that matter to you. We’ll work together to set achievable goals, celebrate your progress, and build confidence through action. Whether it’s trying something new, speaking up for yourself, or making self-care a priority, every step you take will reinforce your growing self-esteem. Setting Boundaries and Asserting Your Needs: Low self-esteem can make it difficult to set boundaries and advocate for yourself in relationships or work situations. I’ll help you develop the tools and skills needed to establish healthy boundaries, express your needs, and assert yourself with confidence. By practicing this, you’ll begin to feel more empowered and worthy of respect in all areas of your life. Celebrating Your Wins: Low self-esteem often leads us to downplay our achievements or overlook our progress. I’ll encourage you to celebrate your wins, both big and small, and help you learn to recognize and acknowledge your growth. Recognizing your strengths and accomplishments is key to building lasting self-esteem. Creating a Positive Support System: Surrounding yourself with positive, supportive people is essential for fostering self-esteem. We’ll explore how you can build and nurture relationships that uplift you, as well as identify any toxic dynamics that might be negatively impacting your sense of self-worth. Healing from low self-esteem is a journey, but it's one that leads to profound personal growth, empowerment, and joy. By working together, we’ll rebuild your confidence, self-compassion, and sense of inner worth, allowing you to step into a more authentic, empowered version of yourself.
