How do you work with clients on anger management?
When working with clients struggling with anger, I begin by understanding the underlying factors contributing to their emotional responses, such as stress, trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, or other mental health concerns. Together, we identify triggers, recognize early warning signs, and develop healthier coping strategies. I use evidence-based therapeutic approaches to help clients improve emotional regulation, communication skills, and problem-solving abilities. When appropriate, I also evaluate whether medication may help address underlying conditions that contribute to irritability or emotional dysregulation. My goal is to help clients respond to challenging situations more effectively and build healthier relationships.
I’m Charity, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) with over 15 years of experience helping individuals and families navigate mental health challenges. I provide compassionate, evidence-based care through telehealth, combining medication management and psychotherapy to support lasting wellness. My approach is patient-centered, collaborative, and tailored to each person’s unique needs and experiences. I work with clients across the lifespan and treat a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma-related disorders, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia spectrum disorders, and behavioral challenges. My goal is to help you achieve greater balance, resilience, and overall well-being as we work together on your mental health journey.

What's your approach to anger management, and what does progress look like for clients?
I view anger as a signal that something deeper needs attention rather than something to simply eliminate. My approach begins with understanding the underlying factors contributing to anger, whether they stem from stress, anxiety, trauma, ADHD, mood disorders, or life challenges. Together, we identify triggers, recognize patterns, and develop practical coping strategies that help patients respond thoughtfully instead of reacting impulsively. Using evidence-based techniques, psychoeducation, and, when appropriate, medication as part of a comprehensive treatment plan, I help patients build emotional regulation, communication skills, and healthy ways to manage difficult emotions. Progress looks different for everyone, but often includes fewer emotional outbursts, improved relationships, increased self-awareness, greater confidence in handling stressful situations, and the ability to respond to challenges with greater calm and control.
Dr. Ivy Attobra is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with over 14 years of nursing experience and nearly seven years as a psychiatric provider. She specializes in treating depression, anxiety, ADHD, bipolar disorder, OCD, trauma, PTSD, and sleep concerns in patients ages six and older. Her compassionate, culturally sensitive approach combines evidence-based treatment with personalized care, ensuring every patient feels heard, respected, and supported.
