Seeking therapy is a courageous first step toward better mental health. Therapy is not about judgment—it’s about creating a safe space for you to explore, heal, and grow. I encourage everyone to prioritize their mental health because it impacts every aspect of life.
Hello, I’m Lynka Smith, MSN, APRN, PMHNP-BC. As an Air Force and Navy veteran, I bring over 20 years of diverse nursing experience to my practice. My journey began at Nicholls State University in Louisiana, and I proudly served in the Navy Nurse Corps, where my passion for mental health was born. Throughout my career, I’ve worked in a variety of settings, including inpatient psychiatry, oncology, medical/surgical units, home infusions, and private practice. These experiences have shaped my holistic, patient-centered approach to care. My special interests include working with veterans, adolescents, and individuals coping with eating disorders and PTSD. I provide comprehensive mental health care, including education about treatment options, therapy recommendations, and medication management when appropriate. I believe in fostering a collaborative environment where we work as a team to create a treatment plan tailored to your unique needs. For your convenience, I offer video appointments for patients aged 4 to 60. I understand the challenges that arise when times are hard and money is tight, and I’m committed to ensuring that mental health remains a priority. Please reach out if you’re looking for compassionate, personalized care. I look forward to working with you and helping you achieve balance and well-being. Treatment Philosophy: I believe that mental health care should be compassionate, collaborative, and accessible. For people that are hesitant to try therapy, what do you wish you could tell them?
Therapy can be life-changing! It can sometimes take a little time to find the right therapist who is a good match for you, but it's worth taking your time and interviewing a few therapists to find someone you feel safe and connected to.
My pronouns are she/her/hers. No matter if it's change for the better or a challenge we never imagined having to face, it can throw everything in life out of balance. If you're here, it's because you know there's more to life than the way you feel today. You're beyond the point of just surviving day-to-day, and you're ready to tap into your purpose, turning these life changes into something you can feel in control of and ultimately grow from. I specialize in coming alongside people as they walk through the uncomfortable, messy parts of life. I bring a no-nonsense, solution-oriented approach to therapy, helping you come to a place of contentment with life as it is, not as you wish it was (or even as you deserve it to be). Because true peace comes when we come to a place of acceptance: no longer relying on external factors as the source of our happiness. Therapy with me is a little different than what you may have encountered in the past. A lot of mental health work these days is very "feel good", leading many to believe that being mentally well is simply being happy or un-phased by the circumstances around them. I believe you're allowed to be angry or anxious or upset when life gets messy. Therapy is simply about equipping you to process and cope with those very real emotions in a productive, healthy way.
