What's your experience with clients with trauma or abuse?
EMDR is an incredibly powerful way to work through your trauma. You wont forget it happened, but after the treatment, you’ll be able to talk and think about it without emotional dysregulation. Similarly to if I asked you what you had for lunch yesterday… You could tell me about your trauma with that little disturbance. It’s pretty incredible!
Brianna “Bri” Jaworski, MA, LMHC- QS is a licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Florida. Bri graduated from the University of Central Florida with a bachelors degree in Business and Health with a minor in Psychology. After starting her own business at age 25, she pursued a new career in counseling in 2010. Bri received her Masters Degree in Mental Health Counseling from Webster University in 2015. Bri is trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), as well as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and has spent a large portion of her career working with child victim’s of sexual abuse. Additionally, Bri provided group services to teens in the local shelter, taught Drug Court and Teen Court classes at the Manatee County Courthouse, Life Skills Training classes for survivors as well as parenting classes. During her clinical Internship, Bri worked for a child protection center in Sarasota, Florida which specialized in providing TF-CBT to child victims of sexual and physical abuse, neglect, and child welfare; as well as their non-offending caregivers and family members. Bri provided Individual, family and group counseling. Bri also worked with at-risk youth and adults in-home and in schools and also with sexually reactive children in the “Kid Kindness” Program. Bri continued on, working with trauma victims including: adult victims of childhood sexual abuse, depression, PTSD, anxiety disorders, adjustment disorders, personality disorders, Bi-polar disorders, trauma, grief, and ADHD amongst many others. Bri also facilitated both teen and adult support groups as well as animal supported counseling. Bri has also worked extensively with the child welfare system including DCF contracting, and intensive in-home substance abuse counseling. Bri is an EMDRIA approved EMDR therapist. EMDR or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is an empirically evidenced technique that has been shown to significantly help clients of trauma, grief, PTSD, addiction, phobias and many other issues by utilizing bi-lateral stimulation that mimics a REM sleep cycle. Disturbing events are able to be “reprocessed” thus lessening and many times diminishing negative cognitions and feelings. Bri has also worked as a Psychology professor, at a local polygraph credentialing and assessment center teaching Psychology classes as well as classes on administering polygraph assessments to convicted sex offenders. Bri has taught students from all over the globe! Opening a practice that is warm, open, comfortable and non-judgmental was imperative in the formation of Mandala Counseling Services. How do you work with clients with trauma and PTSD?
Trauma changes how we see the world—and how we see ourselves. It can make the body feel unsafe, relationships feel overwhelming, and the future feel uncertain. Trauma-focused therapy provides a safe, compassionate space to gently process what you’ve been through and reconnect with your inner strength. This isn’t about retelling your story over and over. It’s about reclaiming your relationship with your body, your emotions, and your sense of self. Why Trauma-Focused Therapy? Whether your trauma stems from a single event or chronic experiences, its impact can linger in the nervous system long after the danger has passed. You might feel stuck in cycles of hypervigilance, shutdown, shame, or emotional overwhelm. Trauma-focused therapy supports you to: Develop internal and external safety Understand how trauma shows up in your thoughts, behaviors, and relationships Reconnect with parts of yourself that were shut down or fragmented Build resilience and emotional regulation tools Healing isn’t linear, but it is possible. And you don’t have to navigate it alone. What is Trauma-Focused Therapy? This therapy approach integrates mind-body techniques and trauma-informed practices to meet you where you are. It often blends talk therapy with somatic awareness, mindfulness, and nervous system regulation work. In our sessions, trauma therapy might include: Learning how to ground and soothe your body Processing traumatic memories at a safe pace Identifying triggers and creating coping strategies Working through self-blame, fear, or disconnection We go slow. We stay present. We honor your pace and boundaries. Who is This For? Trauma-focused therapy can be especially helpful for: Survivors of childhood trauma, abuse, or neglect Individuals with PTSD or Complex PTSD People experiencing dissociation, flashbacks, or emotional numbness Those impacted by systemic, relational, or intergenerational trauma Anyone ready to feel more safe, whole, and grounded Even if it feels hard to trust or open up, therapy can offer a space where healing becomes possible. How We’ll Work Together You are the expert on your story. My role is to help you access your inner resources while creating a space that feels safe and supportive. In our work together, you’ll: Learn to track and regulate your nervous system Build tools for self-compassion and resilience Process trauma in ways that don’t retraumatize Reconnect with your body, boundaries, and inner wisdom We won’t rush. We’ll focus on creating the safety and trust needed to support true healing. So, if you have experienced a traumatic event of any kind, there is no better time to start improving your quality of life than today. You can connect with me at www.SaraSanfordTherapy.com anytime.
I specialize in trauma, including childhood abuse, complex and traumatic relationships, and the ways our minds and bodies sometimes disconnect to help us survive. If you’ve felt numb, isolated, or like you're just going through the motions, you’re not alone—and I promise there’s nothing wrong with you. My approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in both neuroscience and deep compassion. I offer a space where you don’t have to explain everything in perfect words—where your emotions, your body, and your survival strategies are all welcome. As someone who’s walked this path myself, I know how heavy it can feel to carry pain that was never yours to begin with. Healing is possible, even if it hasn’t worked before. We’ll work gently and intentionally to untangle what’s been holding you back, so you can start to feel safe, connected, and fully yourself. You will never be judged for your choices or your experiences, but rather valued for every aspect of your individual journey. You just need to show up—I’ll meet you there, and we’ll move forward together. You can learn more about me on my website at www.SaraSanfordTherapy.com or call/text 415-870-6494.

Why is trauma processing important?
Trauma processing is crucial because trauma can leave deep, lasting scars that affect every aspect of an individual's life, from their mental health to their relationships and overall well-being. Unprocessed trauma can lead to a variety of mental health issues, including PTSD, anxiety, and depression. By processing trauma, individuals can confront and make sense of their traumatic experiences, reducing the intensity of their symptoms and allowing them to regain control over their lives. My approach to trauma therapy involves creating a safe and supportive environment where clients can explore their past experiences and develop coping strategies to heal and move forward.
Welcome! I'm a compassionate and dedicated therapist with a wealth of experience in guiding individuals through life's toughest challenges. Whether you're a child, adolescent, or adult, my private practice is a safe space for you to seek understanding and growth. My expertise shines in creating tailored support plans after thorough initial assessments, ensuring that your unique journey is met with personalized care. I take pride in having provided invaluable assistance to at-risk youth through psychoeducational group counseling, helping them navigate the complexities of their situations with resilience. I've also extended comfort and healing to families dealing with loss, offering grief and bereavement counseling during their most trying times. Trauma can leave deep scars, and I'm here to help soothe them, whether it's past trauma or ongoing challenges. Education is another passion of mine. I've developed educational programs that foster both academic and personal development, always striving to bring out the best in each individual. Throughout my career, I've served diverse communities in various settings—from schools to outpatient programs—always aiming to reunite families and empower at-risk individuals. My commitment to professional growth is reflected in my active memberships with esteemed associations like the American Psychological Association and PSI CHI Honor Society. Let's work together towards healing, learning, and growing. Your story matters here.
