How do you work with clients with grief?
Everyone experiences grief in their own way. I provide a safe environment where my clients can process and discuss their experiences with grief. I help normalize what they are  going through, so that there can be more self-acceptance and understanding. Grief is not just death, but loss in many areas of our lives. Since the pandemic, we are all experiencing grief in one way or another. We need a place where we can be heard and a place where we can express all of our feelings.
Hello! I can help you with life direction (bring in more joy and meaning), grief and loss, life transitions and women’s counseling for empowerment (create more self-compassion and self-esteem, decrease stress, set boundaries and find your voice). Adults sometimes need another perspective to help them understand and work through life’s challenges. Psychotherapy is all about getting to know yourself better, so that you can make changes that will bring about balance and healing in your life. This is a time for you. I view therapy as a gift that people give to themselves. Even if you do not feel this inside, the statement you make by attending therapy is “I matter”, “I am important” and “I deserve to have and live a life that feels good”. I work with clients to develop a plan to create the life that they desire. Would you like help in finding your life direction, and bring more joy into your life? Do you want to connect back to what makes you feel happy and fulfilled? Have you experienced the death of a loved one or another type of loss? At times you may not know where to turn or what to do to make things better for yourself. If you could use some support, I'd like to help. I guide adults in living happier, healthier, more fulfilled and joyous lives. I earned my Master of Social Work degree from Tulane University in 1988. Prior to that, I received my Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Pepperdine University in 1986. Before opening my counseling practice, I spent over a decade providing counseling services and groups to adults, teens and children in various social service agencies. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Colorado. I am also a Certified Grief Informed Professional. I believe that we all have the ability to live a fulfilled and balanced life. I help people access their strengths and guide them in making choices to bring about this healing and balance. I have seen such amazing growth and transformation in my clients. It is a privilege to work with them. I am based in Longmont, CO, but through my exclusively online counseling, I am available to see adults throughout Colorado and Florida. Because the therapeutic fit is so important, I offer a free 20-minute video or phone consultation.  I look forward to hearing from you!

How do you work with clients with grief?
You have to understand that sometimes the grief cycle is a roller coaster. And sometimes clients have to live day by day, minute by minute, second by second. And that’s okay. The important thing is to keep moving while allowing yourself time and space to heal. It’s okay to not be okay some days.
Hi there! My name is Dr. Ana Alicia Potthast, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor with extensive experience and training in behavioral health, diagnostics, addiction, co-occurring disorders, depression, anxiety, personality disorders, trauma, domestic violence, sexual abuse and assault, maternity and fertility issues, grief and loss, hoarding, family dynamics and conflict, marital issues, sexual orientation and gender identification and expression, adjustment issues, stages in life, and many other situations that bring a client to seek counseling. I provide a collaborative and open approach therapeutic style, without any judgment to each client's unique situation. I am trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems Therapy, Interpersonal Psychotherapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Psychodynamic Therapy. I have a passion for assisting client's to reach their full potential and treatment goals. I obtained an Associate of Applied Science in American Sign Language from San Antonio College in San Antonio, TX, and then graduated with a Bachelor and Master of Social Work from Texas State University in San Marcos, TX, before obtaining a Doctor of Social Work from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, California. I am an affirming ally for LGBTQIA clients, and this is a Safe Space. I am presently on the Board of Directors for Fiesta Youth, a member of PFLAG San Antonio, a Federal Club member for the Human Rights Campaign, and a former Steering Committee member for the Human Rights Campaign San Antonio. I was the first recipient of the Pride Center San Antonio Community Circle Award for my volunteer work in the community. Additionally, I work in the medical field, and I have extensive court room testimony experience regarding recommendations for contested custody situations and child welfare situations. I also have a passion for working along-side clients who are living with addiction, and the trauma and hardships they experience as they navigate towards a life of sobriety. I am a wife and mother, and I enjoy hobbies of going to concerts, volunteer work, geocaching, American Sign Language, watching documentaries, dancing, and spending time with family, friends, and my many pets.
