How does sex therapy work and how can it help?
Sex therapy provides a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space to explore concerns related to intimacy, sexuality, desire, communication, identity, trauma, or relationship patterns. It can help individuals and couples better understand their needs, reduce shame, improve communication, and build a healthier connection with themselves and their partners. Sex therapy may support clients navigating sexual anxiety, intimacy difficulties, gender or sexuality concerns, past trauma, relationship challenges, or changes in desire and connection.
I support children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families who are navigating emotional, relational, identity, and life-transition challenges. My work focuses on helping clients better understand themselves, build practical coping skills, strengthen communication, and create meaningful change in their daily lives. I specialize in concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, emotional dysregulation, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, gender and sexuality exploration, and family or relationship challenges. My approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in evidence-based therapies including DBT, ACT, Exposure Therapy, trauma-informed care, Gottman Couples Therapy, and mindfulness-based practices. As a certified yoga teacher with training in Yin Yoga, Yoga Nidra, and meditation, I also bring a mind-body perspective to therapy when helpful. Whether clients are seeking individual therapy, couples or family support, DBT skills, trauma recovery, or career guidance, my goal is to provide a supportive space where they can feel understood, empowered, and better equipped to move forward.

Hello, I’m Lynka Smith, MSN, APRN, PMHNP-BC. As an Air Force and Navy veteran, I bring over 20 years of diverse nursing experience to my practice. My journey began at Nicholls State University in Louisiana, and I proudly served in the Navy Nurse Corps, where my passion for mental health was born. Throughout my career, I’ve worked in a variety of settings, including inpatient psychiatry, oncology, medical/surgical units, home infusions, and private practice. These experiences have shaped my holistic, patient-centered approach to care. My special interests include working with veterans, adolescents, and individuals coping with eating disorders and PTSD. I provide comprehensive mental health care, including education about treatment options, therapy recommendations, and medication management when appropriate. I believe in fostering a collaborative environment where we work as a team to create a treatment plan tailored to your unique needs. For your convenience, I offer video appointments for patients aged 4 to 60. I understand the challenges that arise when times are hard and money is tight, and I’m committed to ensuring that mental health remains a priority. Please reach out if you’re looking for compassionate, personalized care. I look forward to working with you and helping you achieve balance and well-being. Treatment Philosophy: I believe that mental health care should be compassionate, collaborative, and accessible. My philosophy centers on providing education about treatment options, empowering you to make informed decisions. While I prescribe medications when needed, I strongly encourage therapy as a vital part of any treatment plan.
