"I am a dedicated psychiatrist serving children, adolescents, and adults in Champaign, Illinois. I offer both in-person and virtual consultations starting from age 3, and I am licensed in both Illinois and Ohio. My mission is simple: to help my patients not just survive, but truly thrive. When working with young children, my focus is on minimizing the use of psychotropic medications unless absolutely necessary. I conduct a thorough 90-minute interview with both the child and their parents to gain a comprehensive understanding of their needs. If appropriate, I collaborate with the child’s therapists, school counselors, social workers, and teachers to advocate for their mental health within the educational system. I believe early intervention is crucial in addressing psychiatric disorders, often leading to the best outcomes and even full remission. For college students, I provide personalized psychiatric care aimed at enhancing emotional and cognitive functioning. Having immigrated to the U.S. during high school and attended UCLA for my undergraduate studies, I understand the pressures and stresses faced in competitive environments like UIUC. I specialize in supporting students from diverse cultural backgrounds as they adjust to the U.S. college system, and I am happy to collaborate with parents for additional support if they wish. With adult patients, I pay special attention to managing drug-drug interactions and the interplay between medical and psychiatric conditions. My aim is to improve productivity while minimizing the cognitive and metabolic side effects associated with psychotropic medications. I also believe in incorporating holistic and integrative medicine when appropriate. To ensure accessibility during challenging times, I maintain a few urgent care slots for after-hours and weekend appointments. I specialize in treating a wide range of conditions, including bipolar disorders, schizophrenia, PTSD, ADHD, insomnia, substance abuse, autism, OCD, eating disorders, psychosis, marijuana use disorder, alcohol use disorder, mood disorders, learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, developmental disorders, fetal alcohol syndrome, treatment-refractory depression, anxiety disorders, cognitive disorders, dementia, cultural psychiatry, dysthymia, dyslexia, bedwetting, social anxiety, school refusal, nightmares, panic disorder, agoraphobia, specific phobias, intermittent explosive disorder, borderline personality disorder, dependent personality disorder, bipolar II, schizoaffective disorder, drug-induced akathisia, conversion disorder, video game addiction, internet addiction, fibromyalgia, sports psychiatry, and career guidance. Hey there! I'm Lamar, but you can call me KaMu. I'm proudly an MFT Associate at the Multicultural Therapy Academy, working under the guidance of Dr. Pamela Reeves. After finishing my bachelor's degree in health administration and management, I gained valuable experience as an MRI technologist with a neuroscience research team specializing in Functional MRI at the University of Southern California Medical Center. This hands-on involvement intensified my enthusiasm for Psychology, which led me to pursue a master's degree. At the University of Capella, I completed my master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy, focusing on Counselling Psychology. Currently, I'm enrolled in a Doctoral program at Quantum University, where I'm diving into the profound art of holistic healing for the mind, body, and spirit. This includes studying various modalities like hypnosis, NLP, and Neurofeedback, among others. I'm a passionate Psychologist with comprehensive expertise in providing innovative treatment to help individuals navigate psychological and emotional obstacles. I'm committed to offering unwavering support throughout the entire process of diagnosing, evaluating, and implementing treatment. My approach integrates trauma-informed therapy, solution-focused therapy, and cognitive-behavioral therapy. I believe in delving into the depths of trauma's history, unveiling hidden patterns, and embarking on a journey of emotional restoration. By doing so, we can rediscover the joy of life, nurture relationships, and revive our spiritual and emotional well-being. Let's work together to make that happen!

It may not feel like it yet, but even through taking these steps, you are making progress! Steady progress is what I work with individuals to achieve through several treatment methods. The approaches that we use may be different for each person, but my hope for each client is that they reach three things: a sense of understanding, a route to self-acceptance/inner peace, and productivity toward reaching their deepest desires. I am a licensed mental health therapist in Kentucky and Indiana. I was born and raised in a city-setting (Louisville, KY), but spent time learning and working in a rural community as a graduate of Western Kentucky University. My counseling style is nurturing but practical. My hope is that with the end of each session, you will feel understood and motivated, and will have a plan of action to work toward your goals. Some of my favorite treatment modalities include solution-focused, narrative, CBT, DBT, and motivational interviewing. I have an open door to all races, religions, ideologies, and sexual-orientations. My specialties include substance abuse treatment, anxiety, stress, anger management, relationship issues, race/discrimination-related issues, life changes, and parenting issues. When I am not working in the role of therapist, I covet time spent with my husband and four kiddos. If you are ready to move forward toward better understanding yourself, your issues, and your solutions, lets get started! Don't wait another day to start working toward the way of life that you deserve.
