I'm Khameelah Tomlin, LCSW-C, a dedicated mental health professional with a passion for empowering individuals on their unique journeys towards healing and growth. With over 10 years of experience, I have honed my skills in providing compassionate and evidence-based mental health care to diverse populations. My commitment to serving underserved and underrepresented communities has driven my work as an author, public speaker, and mental health consultant. I've authored four trauma workbooks that offer practical tools and insights for individuals and practitioners navigating the complexities of trauma recovery. As a sought-after public speaker, I've had the privilege of sharing my expertise on trauma, resilience, and mental health at various conferences, workshops, and events. I believe in fostering open conversations that reduce stigma and increase awareness around mental health issues. My goal is to create a safe and supportive space where individuals feel empowered to embark on their healing journeys. In addition to my speaking engagements and writing endeavors, I am the proud owner and operator of Flowidity Counseling. My practice specializes in trauma care for Military Veterans, African American communities, and immigrants. I approach therapy with a holistic perspective, considering the unique needs and experiences of each individual. Together, we work to develop coping strategies, explore healing modalities, and cultivate resilience. Currently pursuing a Ph.D. in International Psychology from the prestigious Chicago School of Professional Psychology in the District of Columbia, I am committed to advancing my knowledge and skills to better serve those in need. My academic pursuits complement my real-world experiences, allowing me to offer a well-rounded approach to mental health care. Throughout my career, I've had the privilege of working in various capacities, including as the Director of Mental Health Services. In this role, I ensured that unaccompanied children received the clinical care they deserved. My ability to manage complex programs, provide comprehensive case management, and uphold the highest standards of quality has shaped my approach to effective mental health interventions. I am excited to connect with fellow providers, collaborate on innovative approaches to mental health care, and contribute to the positive transformation of lives. Will Dempsey is the founder of Heads Held High Counseling. He started this practice with a simple goal: to help people. Over time, he realized how often the healthcare system gets in the way of that. Insurances don’t pay providers enough to make a livable wage, but charging what’s fair for therapists can make care unaffordable for clients. It’s a broken system, and he wanted to do something about it. That’s why he expanded into a group practice. By bringing together a talented team, we’re able to push for higher insurance rates while still providing care that’s accessible—especially for marginalized communities that are often priced out of mental health services. Our team also specializes in culturally competent care. As members of the queer community ourselves, we have a deeper understanding of what it means to live as a queer person and the unique challenges that come with it. While he's no longer seeing clients directly, he pours his heart into running this team because he believes in our mission. We strive to meet you where you’re at and guide you toward reaching your goals—whatever they may be. Having been in therapy himself for over 10 years, he understands how frustrating it can be to navigate insurance and mental health care. That perspective drives me to reduce as many barriers to care as possible. Outside of work, he's a drag performer — a passion that reflects his values as a social worker. Both drag and social work are about fighting for social and political justice, and they inspire him to keep showing up for the communities he cares about.
