Why did you become a therapist, and what motivates you to continue?
I became a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner because I’m endlessly fascinated by the human experience and how we manage our struggles. Since I’m a great listener and deeply empathetic, the concept of channeling these qualities into a job that aids individuals in healing and growing truly appealed to me. I believe that everyone is capable of becoming more resilient and adjusting, and I desired a profession that would enable me to journey with individuals as they come to the same understanding. My ongoing motivation stems from seeing the incredible change that my clients are able to take. It was a fantastic and humbling experience watching someone who used to be so afraid overcome it and take back their lives or assisting a couple who was about to split rediscover their relationship.

Why did you become a therapist, and what motivates you to continue?
In college, I felt lonely and anxious about being away from home for the first time. Luckily, I worked with an amazing counselor who reassured me and encouraged me to continue pursuing my education. He inspired me to become a counselor. I worked in a homeless shelter while pursuing my MA in counseling and have since worked in correctional facilities and community clinics with adolescents. My professional experiences have allowed me to meet diverse individuals in their journeys and accompany them on their paths to wellness. I believe that clients are the experts on themselves and that I am a guide, helping my clients explore their goals, dreams, and aspirations. I have completed graduate-level training in trauma counseling, working with LGBTQ clients, and addiction counseling.
Life can be hard and feel unmanageable at times, having someone to truly listen and develop a relationship can go a long way towards feeling better. That is why I believe that a therapeutic relationship is such a special relationship. I completed my Master of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and I am currently pursuing a Doctorate of Education in Counselor Education and Supervision from National Louis University. I have worked with people who are struggling with substance use, depression, anxiety, life adjustments, chronic illness, and working through sexuality and gender identity concerns. I utilize person-centered therapy, motivational interviewing, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help you feel better and strive towards achieving your full potential. When we work together I view my clients as the experts and I work with you to create goals that you want to accomplish. We work as partners on your journey that can include working on personal boundaries, feeling more confident, or reducing problematic behaviors or thoughts. I am here to serve you and am honored to be a part of your recovery and growth!
