How do you work with clients with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)?
I work with clients with OCD by helping them better understand the cycle of intrusive thoughts, anxiety, compulsive behaviors, and avoidance. My approach is structured, supportive, and solution-focused, while also being sensitive to each client’s family, relationship, legal, or life-transition stressors. I help clients identify patterns that keep OCD symptoms going, build healthier coping skills, and gradually reduce the need for compulsions. When appropriate, I also support families and co-parents in learning how to communicate effectively and avoid unintentionally reinforcing OCD-related behaviors.
