How do you work with clients with depression?
With clients experiencing depression, I use a combination of approaches to address their unique needs. This often includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to identify and reframe negative thinking patterns, as well as exploring underlying issues and developing coping strategies. We work together to set realistic goals, build routines, and enhance self-care. My aim is to help clients find hope, improve their mood, and develop skills to manage and overcome depressive symptoms.
I believe everyone tries their best, but sometimes life can be challenging. How we connect with safe people and places when we’re young affects how we handle our emotions as we grow up. When we lack stability and security, it can be hard to function well. I am dedicated to helping adolescents, couples, and families find trust and safety in their relationships. My experience includes Marriage and Family Counseling, Individual Counseling, School Counseling, Community Counseling, and Treatment for Opioid Addiction. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Pennsylvania and Virginia, as well as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). I specialize in addressing relational issues in marriages, couples, families, and individuals. My focus is on attachment-based interventions, which help people become safe, secure, and stable in their lives. I use a relational-based, attachment-focused therapy approach, adapting to each individual's unique needs. I strive to create a safe space where clients feel heard and understood. How do you work with clients with depression?
Together in sessions we use a variety of holistic tools and techniques that will go beyond trying to minimize symptoms and talking about your struggles. In therapy, we will examine what is important to you, what you value, and what isn’t flowing right. Triggers that may worsen or improve your depression will be identified and we will incorporate this knowledge into your action plan. We will practice challenging defeating thoughts and practice self-compassion. Other items on the action plan might also include rewarding yourself for your progress, practicing self-care, and creating more meaningful relationships.
Like the name of my practice, I believe individuals are also capable of blooming throughout even the most difficult of circumstances. I specialize in working with adults struggling with anxiety, OCD, depression, and trauma. This can appear as feelings of guilt, feeling like you're dragging through life, future tripping, or thoughts taking up residence in your mind rent free. During our sessions together we will work towards achieving your goals. This process will allow you to decompress from life’s daily struggles while learning skills to find your peace and happiness. As a therapist it is my goal to help individuals have a better understanding of themselves, process past pain, and feel confident in moving through life. Feel free to reach out to schedule a free consultation by visiting my website or by calling me. I look forward to seeing you embrace life as you want it.

What's your experience with clients with depression?
My approach to clients struggling with depression is exploring the events that have led to the current symptoms. Then I work very closely with clients to begin to identify ways to uplift the mood by focusing on some of the positive aspects of the client's life. This is important because where attention goes, energy flows... what you spend your time focusing on are the things you will see more of around you. Intentionally focusing on some positive things opens us up to seeing more positive things.
My goal is to empower clients to make positive changes. It can be difficult to envision positive changes and growth when you don't see the way. I have worked with so many diverse people over the years that have experienced events that left them with difficulty coping. I have experience working with people who have experienced traumatic events in their lives. I work with anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, adjustment disorder, ODD, and many other difficulties people face. I've worked with parents to understand how to help their child. I'm a HeartMath Certified Practitioner, which brings some incredible strategies to the table. My eclectic approach allows me to collaborate with clients and tailor services to their specific needs. Mindfulness is an incredible way to become grounded, and it offers the space to respond to stressful situations rather than reacting to them. I use CBT and other mindfulness techniques to focus on exactly what clients can do in the moment to focus. Through my experience I understand how difficult it may be to reach out for help. I have found that the energy of another person often acts as a buffer during counseling sessions. A counselor often provides that space for open communication between family members. I welcome you to call or email today. I am an LPC intern working under the supervision of Dr. Angela Waggoner, LPC | VA license number 0701007809.
