For people that are hesitant to try therapy, what do you wish you could tell them?
The decision to start therapy isn’t always an easy one, and you’ve already accomplished one of the hardest parts: starting the process. The process of finding a therapist can also be a bit daunting, and finding someone that is a good match for you is essential to your success. Naturally, you may feel a little nervous or uncertain at first, and that is okay! I am here to answer any of your questions and make the process less intimidating. If you are like many, we repeat the same patterns and get frustrated that they do not bring the results we want. Simultaneously, we’re often afraid to change – afraid to upset our lives and families, afraid to let people down, afraid of being judged, and afraid of the unknown. And there are times that even when we are ready to change, we simply don’t know what to do. This is where I come in. I am empathic and dedicated to supporting you as you navigate through whatever challenges and struggles that have led you to this place of insight, growth, and change. I don’t tell you who to be; I empower you to show the world who you really are!
Each individual is unique and I understand that. One-size-fits-all approaches will never help you reach full potential. You are one-of-a-kind and together we embrace your challenges and seek the best ways to navigate and move toward a healthier and happier version of you. I am trained in a wide variety of theoretical models and intervention techniques to help facilitate your becoming the best version of yourself. I am passionate about helping people identify the thoughts, emotions and behaviors that keep them from living to their fullest. Together we implement evidence based approaches based on the goals and uniqueness of you. I utilize psychotherapy, mindfulness, sport & performance skills, neurofeedback, expressive arts therapy and equine assisted psychotherapy. You don’t have to feel the same tomorrow as you do today. There are many ways in which less than ideal patterns can be changed. Find a path to a better you, no matter your age, background or history – there’s opportunity for a better you!

So, so many things! Firstly, please disregard almost everything you've ever seen or heard on tv about therapy. Therapy is a joint effort between a therapist and the client to identify problematic thinking, feelings and behaviors and learn ways to make things better. There are as many ways to do that as there are therapists and you must find a therapist you like, otherwise, it will not work. You will get what you put into therapy, so if you work hard, try new things (which can be very uncomfortable sometimes) and remain open-minded, you will improve. Therapy takes time, so don't expect a quick fix. I truly believe therapy works and people can recover. That's why my business is called "Recovery Works." It also has that name because a person needs to work at their recovery. As a therapist, I believe it is important to work WITH my client to identify goals and take steps to achieve them. I do not work ON my clients to change them into what I think they "should" be. Please, don't expect your therapy to be a quick fix if you are trying to correct a long-standing issues. Please be patient with yourself during the process and know that not all days will be great, but you will make progress as time goes by if you use what you've learned in session and practice in the real world.
