For people that are hesitant to try therapy, what do you wish you could tell them?
Most people are hesitant to start therapy. I've learned that if you have a consistent voice telling you to do therapy you should probably start and see what happens. So many people have come to me and said they have been thinking about starting therapy for 10 years. My advice would be to not wait. If you think you could benefit from therapy, you probably can. And while its strange at first to open up to a stranger, a good therapist will help you reflect on things you can change but not judge you. I have a skill at helping people in individual and couples therapy learn about their dynamics and work on communication. You are not always going to like what your therapist says to you, because we can feel bad about the things we need to change. In therapy you are learning, and a good therapist knows this, they will listen, push a little, and praise the steps you make towards change. As a client your job is to take a risk and tell your therapist your honest truth, your therapist's job is to learn about you and nudge you towards change.
I have a passion for helping people who have educational and relational challenges due to ADHD & neurodivergence. I can help you if you are struggling in a relationship due to infidelity or divorce or just can't find the relationship you know you need. Many people who come to me are experiencing anxiety, depression, are unsure about how to help themself with stress or procrastination, feelings of instability during a life transition. Therapy is a wonderful opportunity for support, to grow insight, and make change. It's scary when you don't know why things aren't going your way. I have helped people understand their behaviors, feelings, and brain chemistry so they can be happier. We will focus on strengthening your mental well-being and helping you be true to yourself and the people you love. I do individual and couple's therapy.

Participating in counseling does not mean you are weak. It means you are strong enough to ask for help.

To those who are hesitant to try therapy, I would want to convey that it's completely understandable to feel apprehensive about seeking help. Taking that first step can be daunting, but it's important to recognize that therapy is a safe and supportive space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences without judgment. I wish I could tell them that therapy is not about being "broken" or "weak." It's about gaining insight, developing coping skills, and finding solutions to the challenges you're facing. It's a courageous act of self-care and self-discovery. I would want them to know that therapists are trained professionals who are here to listen, validate your experiences, and provide guidance and support as you work towards your goals. You have the power to create positive change in your life, and therapy can be a valuable tool on that journey. Lastly, I would emphasize that you don't have to face your struggles alone. Asking for help is a sign of strength, and therapy can offer you the support and resources you need to navigate life's ups and downs with resilience and confidence.
Hello! I'm Caitlin Hill, your dedicated Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with a passion for empowering individuals and families to overcome life's challenges. With a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and a rich background in psychology from Kent State University, I bring a wealth of knowledge and compassionate care to my practice. My journey began in the military where I served as an active-duty officer, honing my leadership skills and learning the value of resilience. This experience has been instrumental in understanding the unique needs of military families, which I've addressed in professional conferences, highlighting virtual interventions for postpartum depression and anxiety among military spouses. I specialize in supporting adults with severe mental illnesses and co-occurring disorders. My approach is collaborative and tailored to each individual, utilizing evidence-based techniques like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, EMDR and Solution-Focused Therapy. Whether you're a veteran seeking support or anyone looking to build healthier coping strategies, I'm here to guide you through your journey with empathy and expertise. Outside the counseling room, I have trained in EMDR therapy as well as Level 2 Natural Lifemanship for Equine Assisted Psychotherapy – because sometimes healing goes beyond traditional methods. Let's connect and start crafting your path to wellness together. Your story matters, and I'm here to listen.

Maybe this is your first time considering therapy, and you're wondering how it would all work. I mean, there's probably been a lot of things that you've been keeping pretty close to your chest, and the idea of discussing them with a therapist might be... kind of weird. Although you know that theoretically therapy should be helpful, getting THAT real, THAT vulnerable, might seem not even icky, but also pretty scary, if not downright impossible. I get it. The good news is that you'll remain in charge throughout the whole process. You're in charge of what you share and you're in control of the stuff we work on together. It's a judgement-free zone where you can freely discuss what's going on for you and find practical ways forward. How's that sound?
I'm a mix of all sorts of cultural influences - hence my fascination with languages and helping my clients adapt to change. My mother tongue is English, but I also grew up speaking Spanish, with my years in Buenos Aires leaving me with an unmistakably Argentinian accent (which other Spanish- speakers tend to sometimes 'lovingly mock'). My European side is thanks to over 30 years spent living and working in France, where I picked up not only an incurable love for lavender crème brûlée and other deliciously fattening foods, but the ability to provide therapy in fluent French. All in all, this means that immigrants, foreigners, expats; you're my people!
