How do you work with clients with depression?
I work with clients with depression by first creating a supportive, nonjudgmental space where they feel comfortable sharing what they are going through. Depression can affect mood, energy, sleep, motivation, relationships, and day-to-day functioning, so I take time to understand the full picture of each person’s symptoms, stressors, history, and goals. From there, I use a collaborative approach to develop a treatment plan that may include education, supportive therapy, coping strategies, lifestyle guidance, and medication management when appropriate.
My goal is to help clients feel heard while also giving them practical tools to move toward healing. I believe treatment works best when it is personalized, because depression can look different for everyone. By building a strong therapeutic relationship and maintaining open communication, I help clients track progress, address setbacks, and make thoughtful adjustments along the way so they can begin to feel more stable, hopeful, and empowered.
