For people that are hesitant to try therapy, what do you wish you could tell them?
I can certainly relate. As I mentioned in another one of these questions, I didn't even intend to become a therapist. So I see why you may be hesitant. The stigma of mental health issues and treatment is a major obstacle to overcome. Plus the very idea of opening up to a stranger can be scary. This is a very common concern and the first thing I like to address. You do not have to open up for therapy to be effective. You can learn coping skills to manage day-to-day stress. You can overcome trauma without revisiting traumatic experiences. You can heal without opening old wounds. In the end, the direction your therapy sessions go is up to you. You really are in charge. You tell me where you want to go, and I guide you there.
I am the owner and founder of Rowe Counseling Services and have been in mental health treatment for over 8 years. I am licensed in both Mississippi and Louisiana. I have experience working with all age groups. I apply various therapeutic approaches in my work including cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavioral therapy. I always take a client-centered approach and allow you to take the lead in your treatment while I simply act as your guide. Just as many other therapists do, I treat disorders such as depression and anxiety. My specialties however are trauma, dementia, and substance abuse (especially opioid abuse and the use of treatments such as Suboxone and other forms of buprenorphine). I also utilize somatic psychotherapy and sensorimotor psychotherapy for the treatment of trauma and attachment issues. Traditionally, many forms of therapy focus on the influence the mind has on the body. However, trauma is a body response. Somatic and sensorimotor psychotherapy addresses the body to improve the mind. Please, feel free to reach out for a brief consultation to learn more about more about my approaches, my services, and my fees. While I am self-pay only, I do assist with reimbursement for out-of-network benefits. I can quickly check for eligibility.
