What should people thinking about working with you, know about you?
I am a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner with extensive experience in treating anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, and more. I take a compassionate, patient-centered approach, focusing on medication management and holistic strategies to improve mental well-being.
Hello, I’m Liz Comstock, a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner committed to providing specialized mental health care for those who serve the public. With over 10 years of critical care nursing experience in top East Coast hospitals—including 4.5 years in DC’s leading trauma and burn resuscitation unit—I’ve worked closely with healthcare professionals, emergency responders, military personnel, and law enforcement officers. Through these experiences, I have gained firsthand insight into the immense pressures and emotional burdens faced by those in public service. I understand the unique challenges of maintaining mental health while working in high-stress, high-stakes environments. That’s why I provide personalized, stigma-free psychiatric care that prioritizes both symptom relief and professional functionality. My goal is to create a safe, confidential space where those who dedicate their lives to others can prioritize their own mental well-being. Whether you’re struggling with PTSD, anxiety, depression, or the emotional toll of your profession, I am here to help. Together, we will develop a treatment plan that fits your needs—one that supports both your personal well-being and your professional responsibilities. Treatment Philosophy: I believe that mental health care for public servants should be accessible, stigma-free, and tailored to the unique pressures of their roles. My approach integrates evidence-based treatments with a deep understanding of public service culture, ensuring that care supports both emotional well-being and professional functionality. I create a judgment-free space where healthcare professionals, military personnel, law enforcement, and first responders can seek support without fear, allowing them to regain balance, resilience, and fulfillment. What should people thinking about working with you, know about you?
I like to say that you are always becoming the person that you are. That process of learning who you are and where you’d like to be gets disrupted by both the present and the past. I care about the individual in their entire life context. Everything you say to me is important and I truly take my time to get to know you and help you better express yourself.
Welcome. I’m Dr. Gatta but if we work together please call me David. Good therapy is all about a trusting relationship. Over the course of my 13 year career I have had the privilege of working with a diverse group of people from college age students to senior citizens. My passion is helping people understand who they are, where they would like to go in life and what might be preventing those processes. From this standpoint my treatment philosophy is to address underlying causes rather than just symptoms. Doing so is the only way of achieving lasting substantive change. In order to do that I use a holistic approach, meaning I see each individual as a sum of their total life experiences together with their sociocultural contexts.  I have extensive experience working with family of origin issues, trauma, substance abuse, depression and life transitions (including grief and loss). My background is in clinical psychology where my doctoral dissertation explored dreaming as a theoretical form of thinking (cognition). I also have a background in neuroscience and the humanities . I have taught courses on trauma and recovery, addiction, grief and psychopathology.
