How do you work with clients with anxiety?
My approach to anxiety varies depending on how it's presenting in your life, but there are a few things that are pretty consistent in my approach. * Learning to accept feelings of anxiety in the moment so you can move on, rather than getting trapped in a struggle. * Exploring your history with anxiety, and what beliefs you might have about the job it's doing in your life. If you come to a deeper understanding if your anxiety, you can reduce the power it holds over you. * Evaluating coping mechanisms, and learning effective tools for managing anxiety in the moment.
I'm a therapist in San Francisco specializing in anxiety, men's mental health, and relationship issues. I believe that effective therapy is both insightful and pragmatic - you should come away from therapy sessions with a better understanding of what you're facing, along with some ideas about how to get started on solutions. I help people find new ways of approaching their concerns so that their lives can be more manageable and fulfilling. This may mean having less conflict in your relationship, less anxiety, less negative thoughts, or making some big changes to your day-to-day life. Clients find me to be collaborative, open, and curious. I want to make sure you feel safe to explore difficult topics, and that you always feel I'm on your side, even when I'm challenging you to step outside of your comfort zone. How do you work with clients with anxiety?
My approach to working with clients with anxiety involves a holistic understanding of their symptoms and individual circumstances. I prioritize building a therapeutic relationship grounded in empathy, validation, and active listening, allowing clients to feel heard and understood. Evidence-based treatments for anxiety disorders, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and mindfulness-based interventions, are integrated into treatment plans based on the client's preferences and needs. These modalities help clients identify and challenge negative thought patterns, confront avoidance behaviors, and develop effective coping skills to manage anxiety symptoms. In addition to psychotherapy, medication management may be considered for clients with moderate to severe anxiety, with a focus on selecting the most appropriate and effective pharmacological interventions while minimizing side effects and risks.
Greetings! I'm Dr. Joshua Werblin, a dedicated psychiatrist with a compassionate approach to care. My practice is a sanctuary for individuals of all ages seeking mental wellness. My journey began at The University of Chicago, where I delved into the fundamentals of society and its utopian ideals. I took a somewhat circuitous path from there, working in different fields for nearly a decade before starting to study for my medical degree (M.D.) at Tulane University School of Medicine. During those ten years, I worked variously as a biophysicist, wooden boatbuilder, IT support, astrophysics technical work, and an Auxiliary NYPD officer in Harlem. I completed a Pediatrics Internship at Tulane University, followed by a narrower focus in General Psychiatry Residency training, also at Tulane. I then received subspecialty fellowship training in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at Seattle Children's Hospital/University of Washington, followed by the acquisition of Addiction Psychiatry sub-specialization some years later. My career has been diverse, including roles as an Inpatient Psychiatrist, Consult-Liaison Psychiatrist, and several Outpatient Psychiatry positions in New York, Florida, and Maryland. More than half of my career has been spent serving the most underserved and marginalized populations, such as youth and women rescued from the sex trade, runaway youth, homeless families, LGBTQIA++ populations, and undocumented immigrants. Since 2019, I've been proudly serving as 'The Feelings Doctor' in my solo virtual practice, offering psychiatric care for children, adolescents, adults, and those facing addiction challenges. My commitment to you is simple: to provide empathetic, individualized, evidence-based care that supports your unique journey toward mental health wellness, whether or not you choose to use medications along the way. Let's work together to navigate life's challenges and embrace the path to healing and fulfillment.
