How do you work with clients with anxiety?
When working with clients who experience anxiety, I provide a supportive space to understand their triggers and patterns while teaching practical coping skills. I often use CBT techniques to challenge unhelpful thoughts and solution-focused strategies to build confidence, reduce worry, and regain a sense of calm and control in daily life.
I am a licensed clinical social worker with over 20 years of experience working with adult population with issues of decreased motivation and anxiety. It is my thinking that everyone should have someone to speak to about things on their minds, both good and not great, and I will provide a confidential and safe space for this. I use various types of therapeutic interventions while engaging my clients in conversation and helping them see how they can improve in their life choices and to feel better about themselves. As humans, we all make mistakes and in making these mistake, we learn to improve ourselves. I work with Cognitive Behavioral therapeutic techniques as the way we think about things affects how we feel, which in turn affects our behaviors. I urge for self care and help my clients with feelings of low confidence. My focus is in the areas of depression and anxiety and I use a blend of evidence based techniques to make my clients feel happier with their lives and their choices. I have experience with group work and with individual therapy and will help you find what works for you throughout our time together.

What's your approach to anxiety, and what does progress look like for clients?
I don’t believe the goal is to never feel anxious. Anxiety is part of being human; the goal is to understand it, respond to it differently, and stop letting it make all of your decisions for you. In therapy, we’ll look at the thoughts, habits, and situations that keep anxiety going while building tools to help you feel more grounded and capable in your everyday life. Progress might look like saying what you mean instead of replaying the conversation afterward, setting a boundary without immediately feeling guilty, making a decision without needing everyone’s approval, or trusting yourself a little more. For me, progress isn’t perfection. It’s having more room to choose how you respond instead of feeling like anxiety is choosing for you.
I work with adults who are thoughtful, self-aware, and ready for something to change but may feel stuck in patterns of people-pleasing, overthinking, difficulty setting boundaries, or struggling to say what they really mean. Maybe you’re constantly considering everyone else’s feelings before your own, questioning whether you’re asking for too much, or realizing that the way you’ve been doing things just isn’t working anymore. Our sessions are conversational, honest, and collaborative. We’ll slow things down, make sense of what’s happening beneath the surface, and work on the things that matter in your day-to-day life not just talk about them. Sometimes that means processing and reflecting; sometimes it means getting practical and figuring out what you’re going to say, what boundary you need, or what step comes next. You don’t need to come to therapy with everything figured out. You just need to be willing to get curious about yourself. From there, we’ll work together.

What's your approach to anxiety, and what does progress look like for clients?
I approach anxiety with empathy, careful assessment, and individualized treatment. I work collaboratively with clients to understand what may be contributing to their anxiety and identify treatment options that align with their needs and goals. When appropriate, evidence-based medication management can help reduce overwhelming symptoms and create a stronger foundation for overall well-being. Progress can mean fewer anxious thoughts, improved sleep and concentration, greater emotional control, and feeling more confident and able to navigate daily life without anxiety taking the lead.
Serving patients across Arizona, Kansas, New York, Washington, Florida, Delaware, Iowa, Montana, Texas, New Mexico, and Vermont, Funmilayo Akintunde, PMHNP-BC, believes every patient deserves mental health care that is both clinically thorough and deeply human. Seeking mental health care takes courage, and Funmilayo provides an unhurried, empathetic space where patients feel heard, respected, and supported. With extensive experience treating diverse populations across inpatient units, IOP/PHP programs, outpatient practices, correctional health, and community settings, Funmilayo understands the complex ways life experiences can shape mental health. She specializes in diagnostic assessment and evidence-based medication management, taking a collaborative approach to treatment and tailoring care to each patient’s unique needs, concerns, and goals.

What's your approach to anxiety, and what does progress look like for clients?
I take a collaborative and compassionate approach to anxiety, helping clients better understand the thoughts, emotions, and patterns that may be keeping them stuck. Together, we work on practical tools to manage anxious thoughts, build confidence, tolerate uncertainty, and respond to stress in healthier ways. Progress doesn’t necessarily mean never feeling anxious—it means feeling more capable of navigating anxiety without letting it control your choices, relationships, or daily life. Over time, clients may notice they are feeling more grounded, avoiding less, and trusting themselves more.
I am accepting new clients, specializing in women and young adults. As young adults, you have it harder than ever: you’re dealing with a high cost of living, having to live with your parents longer than you’d prefer, poor job prospects, uncertainty about your career, struggling to make and maintain friendships, increasing student debt, as well as the exposure to social media and the high expectations you develop of yourself as a result. Then you have the pandemic that affected so many of you during high school and/or college, causing you to miss the big events that many were looking forward to. I have worked with many young adults over the years and have seen first hand the stress and anxiety that all of this causes your generation. Allow me to help you navigate through these uncertain times and provide you with the tools to help you forge a path forward. Change isn’t easy, and it can be scary, but it is necessary in order to move forward. Together we can work to identify and overcome the obstacles in your life that are preventing you from reaching your potential and realizing your goals. I can help you gain insight and develop healthy coping skills so that you may experience personal growth. Contact me today for a free 15 minute consultation to see if we would be a good fit to work together.

How do you work with clients with anxiety?
I help clients identify the thought patterns, triggers, and physiological responses driving their anxiety. Using CBT, DBT skills, mindfulness, and trauma-focused methods like EMDR when needed, we work to calm the nervous system, reframe anxious thinking, and build practical tools for managing stress and regaining a sense of control.
I’m Dr. Lisa Palmer, Clinical Director of The Renew Center of Florida, where I provide compassionate, specialized therapy for individuals, couples, and families. Through both in-person sessions and secure virtual care across Florida, I support clients in finding clarity, healing, and meaningful, lasting change. With advanced clinical training and decades of experience, I help adults and teens work through anxiety, depression, PTSD, trauma, substance use, relationship struggles, life transitions, and stress-related challenges—always with a focus on restoring balance and strengthening emotional well-being. My therapeutic approach is highly personalized. I draw from a broad range of evidence-based modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), EMDR, mindfulness-based techniques, trauma-focused interventions, and emotional regulation strategies. Together, we identify the patterns that no longer serve you and develop practical, effective tools to support healthier thoughts, improved coping, and a renewed sense of resilience.
