Please note that my practice does not prescribe psychotropic medications. However, I collaborate closely with psychiatrists and can provide referrals if needed.  My Theoretical Orientation I provide high-quality mental health services that are both scientifically grounded and deeply compassionate, fostering a friendly, accepting, and inclusive environment for all patients. My extensive training spans various therapeutic approaches, including psychodynamic and psychoanalytic psychotherapy, as well as cognitive-behavioral treatments like Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness-Based CBT (MB-CBT), Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT), and manualized treatments for insomnia, phobias, and PTSD. I am committed to providing a compassionate listening space where you are invited to reflect and explore yourself, understanding your deepest challenges and strengths. Through patient listening, reflecting, shared inquiry, and various evidence based interventions, I strive to help you become more aware of your patterns and thoughts, fostering greater self-understanding and clarity. My goal is to support you in making meaningful and skillful choices that align with your true self.  My Therapeutic Style My approach to mental health, in general, is characterized by an accepting and caring environment that is collaborative in nature. I am authentic, down-to-earth, intentional, and spontaneous in session, which lends itself to a truly collaborative and growth-promoting experience. I enjoy working from a holistic yet evidence-based approach.  I show up authentically for each patient, and I value transparency and provide my full presence. Patients who work with me can expect to explore feelings, beliefs, and behaviors, understand memories, process destructive relationships, and identify dysfunction, which will lead to a better understanding of themselves and others. During therapy, there is an ongoing effort to develop effective coping skills, decrease emotional distress, improve functioning, and resolve symptoms and problems. Each therapy session is a balance of meeting your present needs and long-term goals. Collaboratively, we will deepen your understanding of yourself your reactions to various emotions and, increase your psychological flexibility and create new perspectives.  My Wishes for You I wish you a life full of love, happiness, fulfillment and health. How does trauma focused therapy work and how can it help?
It's important to work with a therapist who has years of experience in working with trauma. I'm a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (Level II) and have 25+ years of experience working with survivors of childhood abuse, sexual assault, relational violence, gun violence and the 9/11 terrorist attack. Experiencing a life threatening event (or an event that feels devastating) has an impact on how you think and feel. You might also feel the trauma response in your body: have you ever cringed, wanted to run away, felt nauseous or numb when you were reminded of a stressful event? You had to survive the event and use whatever skills were available to you. Trauma focused therapy works to decrease the negative emotions and bodily sensations. We also work on the negative beliefs you tell yourself because of what you went through. Often the brain generalizes to other situations such as a thought of "I'm not safe anywhere". That's not a very comfortable belief to have and only feels true. It also leads to avoidance of any situation going forward that could be frightening. Good trauma work focuses on all components: thoughts, emotions, the body and behaviors. You can do this with several types of therapy like Cognitive Processing Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing and even Psychodynamic therapy. It's important to know that you are not your trauma even though it has had an impact on your life. You won't forget what happened to you, but it will no longer hold you back and you will feel it less intensively. Post traumatic growth is the belief that you have many strengths and abilities, not because of the trauma you went through, but in spite of what you went through. You survived the adversity because you are a strong, worthy and an amazing person.
Are you ready to make some changes? I’m a therapist with 25+ years of experience. I help clients with anxiety and trauma develop new skills and insights to feel calmer, confident and in control. If you are struggling with feeling fearful, nervous, overwhelmed, irritable and physically ill, I can help. Therapy can provide you with the tools to be your authentic self, improve relationships and just feel better.  I’m Certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing and am a Certified Clinical Anxiety Professional and a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (Level II). I would love to speak with you about any questions you have and what you’d like to accomplish in therapy. I offer a free 15 minute phone consultation to see if we’d work well together. Let’s chat today.

Sometimes life's struggles and transitions have led to pain and feelings of being paralyzed and lost. You are not alone even though day after day it might feel like a daily battle. Counseling can be the answer to finding hope and a new beginning to finding answers, self-awareness, and self-compassion for making new choices and having a new outlook. Sarah helps you find connections between your thoughts, feelings and actions to be emotionally healthy and face past hurts that are holding you back. Thoughts aren't facts and you can learn to change that inner voice that criticizes you and shed faulty beliefs that lead you down the wrong path time and again. Sarah is certified in EMDR, a highly researched and supported therapy for trauma and PTSD. EMDR enables people to heal from symptoms and emotional pain and is also used to address multiple mental health issues. Using techniques that align with neuroscience, this therapy uses the body’s ability to heal, often producing relief from many symptoms quickly. For children, Sarah integrates play techniques with EMDR because children heal through play and imagination. The effectiveness of EMDR results in clients who feel empowered rather than paralyzed by life experiences that in the past caused them great pain. EMDR does not require extensive homework or hours of talking about the pain to find relief. Simply said, talk therapy helps clients handle emotional pain, but EMDR removes the emotional pain! This is why EMDR is almost always Sarah's go to choice for most of her clients regardless of therapy issue.
