How do you work with clients with anxiety?
My work with anxiety starts with listening to your unique experience and understanding what situations, thoughts, and feelings drive your symptoms. Anxiety can show up in many forms, and part of my role is to sort through the details carefully so the treatment fits you and not just the label. I am conservative with medications and very deliberate about what I prescribe. If we use medication, I will explain why I am recommending it, what it does, and what to watch for. My goal is for you to understand your treatment as clearly as I do. You will always be encouraged to ask questions, challenge recommendations, and make decisions with me, never feeling like things are hidden or rushed. I want every patient to leave knowing they are heard, understood, and fully informed.
Sean Kim, is a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) who provides compassionate, evidence-based psychiatric care. As a PMHNP, he is licensed to diagnose mental health conditions, prescribe and manage medications, and provide ongoing treatment; with emphasis on whole-person, patient-centered care. He specializes in treating ADHD, depression, anxiety, OCD, and PTSD. Currently, serving patients in Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, Torrance, and throughout Los Angeles County. For those outside the South Bay, He also offers secure tele-health appointments anywhere in California. His approach blends thorough psychiatric evaluation, thoughtful medication management, and integrative strategies to help you feel like yourself again, focused, balanced, and confident in your daily life. He created Lumina Wellness to transform psychiatric care by providing personalized, high-quality treatment that is both accessible and sustainable. He believes patients deserve more than rushed five-minute appointments; they deserve thoughtful, individualized care where their needs are heard and respected. By accepting insurance without compromising quality, we are changing the way medication management is done, making comprehensive mental health care available to everyone while maintaining the highest standards of compassion and clinical excellence.

How do you work with clients with anxiety?
I work with clients with anxiety by creating a supportive, nonjudgmental space where they can feel safe exploring what they are experiencing. Together, we identify the thoughts, triggers, and patterns that may be contributing to anxiety, while also building practical tools to manage overwhelming emotions in daily life. Using a person-centered approach, I meet each client where they are and tailor treatment to their unique needs and goals. I also integrate evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help clients challenge unhelpful thinking patterns, solution-focused techniques to build on strengths and create achievable steps forward, and calming strategies to improve emotional regulation. My goal is to help clients feel more understood, confident, and empowered as they develop healthier ways to cope with anxiety and move toward lasting change.
I am dedicated to providing a safe, welcoming space where you feel heard, understood, and supported as you navigate life's challenges. I believe deeply in the power of collaboration, working alongside you to identify meaningful goals and create lasting, positive changes. I am also an ally of the LGBTQIA+ community. I use a person centered approach to counseling as well as, integrating evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), solution-focused techniques, and The Gottman Method for couples therapy.

How do you work with clients with anxiety?
With anxiety, I focus on both understanding and regulation. We explore what your anxiety is trying to communicate, while also building tools to help your body feel safer. This may include grounding techniques, nervous system regulation, and gently working through thought patterns that keep anxiety going. I also move at a pace that respects your capacity, rather than pushing too quickly.

How do you work with clients with anxiety?
I work with clients with anxiety by first understanding how anxiety is showing up in their daily life whether that looks like constant worry, racing thoughts, panic, irritability, difficulty sleeping, feeling overwhelmed, or trouble slowing down. I take a practical and collaborative approach, looking at the full picture, including emotional symptoms, physical health, stress levels, routines, and any other factors that may be contributing. When appropriate, I provide medication management as part of treatment, while also helping clients better understand their symptoms and what may be fueling them. My goal is to create a treatment plan that feels realistic, personalized, and supportive, so clients can feel more stable, more in control, and better able to function in everyday life.
I am a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and founder of Open Chair Psychiatry & Mental Wellness. I provide telehealth psychiatric medication management for adults across Ohio with a focus on accessible, practical, and collaborative mental health care. My background in nursing and advanced psychiatric practice allows me to take a whole-person approach, recognizing how mental health, physical health, lifestyle, and life stressors interact. I believe treatment works best when patients feel heard, respected, and involved in decisions about their care. I have experience treating depression, anxiety disorders, mood instability, and other complex psychiatric conditions. My practice focuses primarily on medication management while emphasizing education and practical strategies that support long-term stability. I aim to expand access to quality psychiatric care for adults throughout Ohio, including those in communities with limited mental health resources.
