Why did you become a therapist, and what motivates you to continue?
Over the years, I have been asked this question quite a few times. I knew I wanted to be in the helping professions from the time I was in seventh grade. I didn't know exactly how, but I knew I was going to be in the field from the moment I took my first psychology. I just remember being so fascinated by what was taught. That was twenty-seven years ago! Today, as a therapist, I am still fascinated by what I do. I love helping people. I am motivated on a daily basis by watching my clients learn, improve and change their thinking and make better choices to improve the quality of their lives. It is so rewarding to watch people lift themselves up and begin to live the life they deserve. I've always said, this is the only thing I can imagine ever doing with my life. It is my calling.
Hi! My name is Trisha. I am so happy you have found my profile. If you are looking for quality, compassionate, effective individual or group counseling services to address substance use, depression, anxiety or any other mental health concern, you are in the right place. I provide quality, evidence-based treatments to help people overcome mental illness, addiction and lots of other issues they encounter in daily life. I've been in the mental health and addiction field for many years and have worked successfully with a lot of people like you who wanted to improve the quality of their lives but just weren't sure how. I help people understand what is going on with them and how to start to make things better at their pace.

Why did you become a therapist, and what motivates you to continue?
I first became a therapist because it balanced my love of analytical problem-solving with my love of helping others understand and care for themselves. Now that I am a few years in, I truly feel that I am a therapist because it is a way for me to make a positive impact on the world, even if that means just one person at a time.
Working from a feminist theoretical perspective, I feel that your unique voice deserves to be believed, be heard, and be taken seriously. I believe in creating a trusted space in which you feel comfortable to work through your difficulties, without fear of judgment or discrimination. My area of specialty is addiction. I am a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC). I am also able to treat addictive behaviors such as gambling or spending. I have experience working with both individuals and groups struggling with severe addictions. I am able to connect you with higher levels of care if you need more support in your recovery beyond the outpatient level. I also specialize in LGBTQ+ and women's issues, specifically with transgender folks. I have helped many clients begin their gender transitions, including hormone replacement therapy and gender-affirming surgeries. Beyond my areas of specialty, I am able to work with anxiety, depression, mood disorders, life transitions, relationship difficulties, trauma, personality disorders, and more. Let's see if we are a good fit! I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Wayne State University in 2013, and my Master of Arts in Counseling from the University of Detroit Mercy in 2019. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). I am also a National Certified Counselor (NCC), which is a board certification. I am fully licensed in Illinois as well (LCPC).
